4 cool hacks to extend your foodPosted by: Vivian Trac
When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade (unless you really want to), there’s a better way:
- A few drops of lemon – when you only need a few drops or a teaspoon of lemon, puncture the skin with a knife and squeeze out what you need. Cover with a piece of sticky tape or cling film and store in the fridge for later use.
- Potatoes galore – peeled too many potatoes that you aren’t gonna use? Put them in a bowl, cover with cold water and add a few drops of vinegar. They’ll keep in the fridge for three to four more days.
- Eggsellent – if you don’t eat eggs often, or you’re going away for a bit and don’t want them to go off in the fridge, dip a paper towel into oil and rub over the shells before storing them back in the fridge. The oil will keep the eggs fresh for an additional three to four weeks.
- Paper towel up the vegetable bins – Not sure if those vegetables bins really accomplish anything? Try lining them with paper towels first! They’ll absorb the moisture that causes your fruits and vegetables to rot. Plus it’s a lot easier to clean!
